IMTIAZ ALI    (Director Bollywood from Jamshedpur)

Imtiaz was born in Darbhanga, Bihar, and brought up in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

 His father Mansoor Ali used to do irrigation jobs. Ali did his basic education from St. Michael’s High School, Patna, and for higher studies, he attended D. B. M. S. English School, Jamshedpur. 

When he shifted to Jamshedpur, his parents were in Patna and interesting incidents happened in his life right from the very beginning. He used to stay with his aunt at Karim Mansion (an old well-known building in Jamshedpur, where they had three cinema theatres, two of which were attached to his aunt's house). Even when he went to sleep, he had the sound of cinema in the background and since he lived there, he could go there whenever he wanted even though he was not allowed to. He had made friends with the projectionist and would see him changing reels and call him from his bidi break if the reel stopped in between. He was not studying and he failed. He was so self-conscious after that and for the first three days, he could just not go back to school. This whole embarrassment of failing and craning his neck down and avoiding his friends who had become his seniors, was difficult for him. Even though he had failed, his father never made him feel worse and was only there to always encourage him. It’s after that, that he started applying himself and excelled in studies and sports and started doing theatre.

 He did his graduation from Hindu College, where he used to take part in Theaters, and was very successful in college. The dramatics society in college named ''Ibtida'' was started by him. Afterward, his interest in Film Making developed and shifted to Mumbai, and earned a Diploma degree from Xavier’s Institute of Communication. He began his career by directing some TV shows like Kurukshetra aired on ZEE TV and Imtihaan aired on Doordarshan.

In 2005, he stepped in Bollywood as a director with movie ''Socha Na Tha'' starring Ayesha Takia and Abhay Deol, but it failed on box office. But it was not the end for him as more great opportunities were coming his way. His second movie ''Jab We Met'' starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, proved to be the career-changing movie for him. It was his first box office success. Then he came up with movie ''Love Aaj Kal'' starring Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, was his biggest blockbuster till date. He got the recognition and fame a director aspires to achieve.

Now Imtiaz Ali became every producer's choice and every actor wanted to work with him. His next movie starred Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri as leads named Rockstar, which proved to be Ranbir’s most challenging role of his career, the movie got mixed reviews from audiences as well as critics, did well at box office. With every movie Imtiaz was creating magic with his direction skills. Imtiaz is also a producer, the name of his production house is Window Seat Films and his first produced and directed movie was Highway starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, the film was praised by critics, and was able to connect to audiences emotionally, he touched a very sensitive issue in the movie and executed it in a very beautiful manner.

His dream project Tamasha was released starring his favourites Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone on November 27, 2015, the movie was not able to connect with audiences and failed to impress the critics as well. The movie did moderate business at box office. His last directed movie was Jab Harry Met Sejal starring the King Khan of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, it was again a flop for him, the movie got lots of negative reviews and his fans was really disappointed with him. As a writer Imtiaz has written 10 movies includes Socha Na Tha, Ahista Ahista, Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Cocktail, Highway, Tamasha, a short film named My Dream and Jab Harry Met Sejal. Ali has won one Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue for movie Jab We Met, and got nominated 5 times.
