Born and brought up in Hazaribag, Jharkhand, Sanjay Routray now owns his production house named Matchbox pictures Pvt ltd. which produced the Andhadhun and the film got record-breaking awards.
Sanjay Routray studied at St. Xavier's school Hazaribag and after completing his education he started working in the hotel industry in Himachal. He was busy in his life and work until he got the opportunity to help some film directors during their shoot.
Few directors got impressed by his management skills and asked him to come to Bombay (now Mumbai) and join the film industry.
Sanjay Routray gave a deep thought about this idea and went to Bombay in search of a career in the film industry. After reaching Bombay, he got acquainted with the industry very soon and adapted himself according to the industry, and started his career as a line producer in films like Makdee, Khosla ka Ghosla, etc. Now he owns his own production house and has been awarded ample awards for his film Andhadhun.

Worked as Executive/Line Producer on Hindi language films like- Makdee, Khosla ka Ghosla, Johnny Gaddar, Kaalpurush, Shaurya, and others.
Have executed & been associated with some of the top directors with their first films. To name a few- Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj, Imtiaz Ali, Sriram Raghavan, Dibakar Bannerjee, Manish Jha, and others.
Have line produced 2 films with Buddhadeb Dasgupta, which were premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and one of them was the official entry in the Panorama section at the Berlin Film Festival and both went on to win the National award for "Best Director" and "Best Film" respectively in consecutive years.

He owns Matchbox Pictures Pvt. Ltd since 2013.
Andhadhun Produced by matchbox was rated as the No.1 feature film of 2018 across all Indian languages by IMDB.
