Nilima Sinha is an author who writes books on children and has won various prizes at the national level for her books. I will let you know about her books and the prizes she won but before that, her connection with Hazaribag must be deciphered.
Nilima Sinha is the wife of Shri Yashwant Sinha (former foreign and finance minister of India) and the Mother of Shri Jayant Sinha (current MP of Hazaribag).
She has spent her early life in New Delhi where she did her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary and after that, She completed her graduation from Delhi University. She got married to Yashwant Sinha at an early age when Yashwant Sinha was an IAS officer posted in Bihar.
She grew her interest in writing since her graduation years and after marriage she kept the passion going inside her. When her children Jayant, Sumant, and Sharmila grew older enough to move out of home for their further studies, she took up the job of teaching and taught at Notre Dame Academy, Patna, and Bluebells, New Delhi.
She has spent ample time in Hazaribag and has also written stories related to this place, her book 'Red Blooms in the Forest' is one of the books which is based on the serious issue of Naxals and she has coped up well to shift from writing children books to books on serious issues.
Nilima Sinha has penned down more than 25 books in the genre of Children's literature. At present Nilima Sinha is President of, Association of Writers and Illustrators for Children (AWIC), the Indian Section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). She was also Vice-President of IBBY earlier.
Her published works include "The Chandipur Jewels", "Vanishing Trick at Chandipur", "Adventure on the Golden Lake" and "SOS From Munia" – all these books won 1st prize for Best Fiction in the genre of children in the National Competition for Best Children's Fiction. Her book " Adventure Before Midnight" was selected for the White Raven List for libraries internationally. Her other book "Mystery of the Falling Mountains" is another popular novel by her. Her latest book for children is "Search for the Sacred Gem", a historical fiction set in the 18th. century India.
Her other notable books are "The Yellow Butterfly", "So Can I", "Rishabh in the Land of the Flying Magicians" and four books in the Save the Earth Series. She has worked on an NCERT Committee for producing English Textbooks, the Marigold Series, for Primary Schools.
She writes in Hindi also. Her book "Hamirpur ke Khandahar" is a supplementary reader in Class 6 in SCERT schools. She has edited and contributed to anthologies such as Our Leaders, Triumph of Non-violence, Together We Marched, Kamla’s Story, Mystery Stories- 1 and 2, M for Mystery-1 and 2, There’s Another Way, Stories From Across the Globe, Once Upon a Time in India, Road to Peace, Lighthouse in the Storm, and The Stranger and Other Curious Stories.
An author from Hazaribag Nilima Sinha has written plenty of books for children and she has been associated with the national as well international writer's association for a long.
