Captain Shikha Surbhi (India’s First Female Officer in Army Daredevils team led 33 men on republic day parade is from Hazaribag, Jharkhand)
Born and Brought up in Hazaribag, Captain Shikha Surbhi completed her matriculation from Indira Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya, Hazaribag situated adjacent to Central Jail and beside Hazaribag Lake. Studied in boarding school, Shikha learnt all her basic Karate and Martial Art skills from her games teacher and her mother. She was fond of adventure and sports since her school days and she reiterated an incident of class 9th, when her games teacher rode Pulsar 150cc over her stomach during a sports day event in her school. Since, then she has only one goal,that is to join the Army like her family members.
After completing her 10th, she did her plus two from Ganga International School, New Delhi and then completed her engineering from Uttam Devilal College of Engineering. During her engineering years, she prepared for IAS examination and gave few attempts but could not qualify and joined Impetus-a technological firm as a software engineer. Working for 2 years in corporate, she kept her dream of going into army intact and after unsuccessful 2 attempts, she qualified for India Army in 2014 and also volunteered for Daredevils team for 2 years. She got 1st position in her 3rd attempt.
She got her first posting in Nagaland in 2015 as a Lieutenant and currently she is posted in Bhatinda as Captain Shikha Surbhi.
On 26th January, 2019, she led the Daredevils team ,a team of 33 army men showing different kinds of stunts over Bullet. She scripted history for India by being first officer in the Army Daredevils contingent.
28-year-old Captain Shikha Surabhi is the first female officer to be a part of an all-male Daredevils team. On Saturday, 26th January, 2019, she put up a magnificent show on her Royal Enfield 350 CC. Her confidence and love for physical training further motivated her to join the Daredevils team.
The team was raised in 1935 and holds 24 World Records including a Guinness World Record and a Limca Book of records.
Although, she was fond of riding bikes and doing adventurous sports, she learnt the real stunt with Daredevils team and got her perfection in riding Bullet without holding the handle, standing on the Bullet and many such stunts. She says that riding bikes and learning how to perform these adventurous tasks didn’t happen overnight. It was a progressive task. “I was riding bike prior to joining Army also. I have also driven a bike to Ladakh. I got selected here because I knew how to ride a bike.”
Nevertheless, learning how to leave the handles and ride a bullet was not easy.
When she was back in Hazaribag and met the students of Indira Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, it was a very proud moment for all girl child studying in the school and for the people of Hazaribag and Jhakrhand.
